WHAT IS AIR DUCT CLEANING?
Why do air ducts need cleaning?
Air ducts need to be cleaned due to the fact that dust, pollen, mold spores, fibers, hair, paper dust and more is drawn into your HVAC system.
Ninety-Five percent (95%) of these particles pass through the air filter(s) in your home and then, unknowingly to the resident, reside in the air duct system and air handling system.
The air ducts are the main breeding area for bacteria and various mold growths that cause many people to suffer from allergies or respiratory stress.
Dirty Airducts are also a main source of musty, stale odors present in the home.
When should the air ducts be cleaned?
When anyone in the home or building has breathing problems like allergies, asthma or emphysema. Having the air ducts cleaned before moving into another residence can help eliminate allergies and/or respiratory stress. If a home has a new furnace installed or changes are made in the air duct system, it is a good idea to have the air ducts cleaned thoroughly. If dust appears on walls, ceilings, drapes or around the registers, this too is a sign that your air ducts need to be cleaned.
How often should this process be done?
The Mad Hatter is a national company and every location is a bit different due to the locale. The frequency is based on where one lives regionally as well as other aspects such as if pets are in the home, and if your home has carpeting and/or cloth furnishing. Other things to consider is how often the windows and doors are opened to allow the out door elements such as dust and dirt to enter home. Homes in humid areas will need to be done more frequently than those in arid areas due to mold growth. The Mad Hatter suggest that everyone can use the guidelines of having the air ducts cleaned every two to three years unless you see a build-up of dust on the walls, ceiling or around the registers as noted in the above paragraph.
